Retirement Coaching

Are you are thinking about retirement? Maybe it will happen in the next few months or maybe it already happened!

Regardless of where you are in the retirement process, you’ve come to the right place.

No doubt you’ve put in many hours looking at budgets, monthly expenses, 401K’s and Roth account, savings and investments.

You marvel at the opportunities ahead of you as you are now finally at that point where you can call it quits and start enjoying life on your terms. But what are “your terms”?

What does your everyday life look like now that you’re no longer tied to your job or career?

For many, the first months are filled with excitement and to-do lists that we’ve been accumulating for years.

For some, however, there is a sense of loss – a time of personal wandering where we feel like we don’t quite fit or may have lost our focus or purpose. Transitioning from a fast-paced, highly demanding environment can sometimes be difficult when you suddenly find yourself without a barrage of emails and tight deadlines. For others, the daily routines have not provided you with the sense of fulfillment you expected. If this resonates with you, know that you are not alone.

With thousands of Baby Boomers entering their retirement years, this is a more common experience than one would think.

But the great news is that there are several steps that you can take to help you transition to make this the best time of your life!

What is the Retirement Coaching process?

Step 1 - Meet and Greet

First, we will go over the program to determine if Retirement Coaching meets your needs as the potential client.

Step 2 - Program Kickoff

Step 3 - Program Implementation

Next, we will start with the review of life history and find those catalystic opportunities that will help create a fulfilling retirement.

From there, your journey will include 6 sessions to help you identify your foundation to a Portfolio Life.

Step 4 - Live Your Best Life!

Finally, feel free to use me as a resource as you go off and “make the rest of your life the best of your life!”

Portfolio Life

During our time working together, we will utilize many resources, including framework from the book “Portfolio Life” by David Corbett, to create a unique retirement plan for each client based on their goals. Building a successful retirement life can consist of several different focus areas that provide value to you and to others, should you choose.

Let’s look at the five components of Portfolio Life…

Enjoying Personal Pursuits & Leisure

For many of us, this has always been in the form of our vacation or PTO time. Now that you are no longer tied to those time constraints, you can begin to explore more opportunities. Big trips or small outings, golf or pickle ball, reading or needlework – now is your time to try out all those things on your fun to-do list.

Giving Back To Society

There is a quote from Audrey Hepburn that directly applies to this time in life; “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands – one for helping yourself and the other for helping others”. If you embrace that thought, it makes sense to then take some time to reflect and identify areas or opportunities that appeal to you, and for which you find a passion. It can be as simple as volunteering at your local food shelter or hospital. Maybe a mission trip is in your future or becoming a Make-A-Wish volunteer. You can find opportunities at www.volunteermatch.org or call your local entities for more information.

Healthy Living

Healthy living takes on a variety of aspects including more than just physical fitness.

How you are caring for your mental health and your spiritual health are equally important as you transition into a new life style. A dear friend and mentor once told me that as many start their retirement years, there is a period of wandering; a time where things may become uncertain, and we must navigate through those times with a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Learning & Self-Development

With a focus on you, now is the perfect time to take on those interests that you had not had time for in the past or lost touch with over the years. Topics like genealogy, gardening, golf or other sports, photography (and the list goes on and on…) can now be a priority for you. Maybe you enjoy an educational environment - you now have the opportunity for classes that are fun and fulfilling. The opportunities are endless for you to stretch your mind and talents.

Working In The Form You Want

Miss the day-to-day interactions with others? Do you want to add more value but not be tied to the 50+ hour work weeks? Now is a great time to explore working on your terms. Explore those part-time or consulting opportunities that allow you to work the amount you want while you still have the freedom that you want. If there is a second career that has always interested you, now is your time to explore and dabble in those areas.
